Brief background on NFIMR funding changes

Update on NFIMR at ACOG

On January 16, 2015, HRSA released a Funding Opportunity Announcement for a singular National Fetal, Infant, and Child Death Review Center (FICDRC).  These funds were from the Division of Child, Adolescent and Family Health and Division of Healthy Start and Perinatal Services at HRSA's Maternal and Child Health Bureau.  The Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) had the award for the National Center for the Review and Prevention of Child Deaths (NCRPCD) Resource Center and ACOG had the award for the NFIMR.

ACOG joined MPHI to write and submit the application for the new center.  MPHI was awarded the contract with ACOG as a partner to integrate the FIMR aspect of this collaborative model addressing fetal, infant, and child death reviews.  The grant award combined the two existing resource centers, the NCRPCD and NFIMR into one entity.

During the past year, ACOG worked collaboratively with MPHI on this program.  ACOG could not move forward as needed to address and represent FIMR issues in the new National Center and decided not to continue as a subcontractor.  The NFIMR database, initially funded by NFIMR and the Michigan Public Health Department under a contract with MPHI, will continue with MPHI.
