Spotlight on National Partner- SMFM

An important need exists to better understand the continuum of fetal, neonatal, and pediatric losses. A new center, the National Fetal, Infant, and Child Death Review Center (FICDRC), is being proposed to combine the technical assistance and data support functions currently conducted by the National Center for the Review and Prevention of Child Deaths and the NFIMR. This proposed organization will help to improve review processes, develop a combined database to guide prevention efforts, and strengthen the strategic alignment along the life course of the NCRPCD and NFIMR. The ongoing association of ACOG and SMFM with these collaborative organizations will provide additional data in caring for pregnant women and their babies.

The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine has had an ongoing presence at NFIMR. Dr. Washington Hill served as the SMFM’s liaison for a number of years, and Dr. Helain Landy, Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Director, at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, assumed the role in 2006.
